A real nip in the air

This last week has been getting distinctly chilly, a far cry from the start of winter last year when we were still picking tomatoes. To make matters worse we've been getting up early for all sorts of reasons, curtailing my snug mornings in bed as I wait for the temeprature to rise.

The advantage to this is catching the first rays of sun on the mountains in the morning. And before everyone stands back in complete shock and thinks I've somehow overcome my innate aversion to rising from bed at a 'decent hour': the sun doesn't get over the mountains here until about 8.30am, although I do still like being able to say that I get up with the sun.

First sun of the day on the mountains

As the sun rises over our valley

I'd like to be able to say that I have been inspired by the natural beauty of the early morning to rise at a similar hour next week. However, I know myself too well and I expect that I shall be snug in bed waiting for it to warm up before I sneak so much as a little toe out from under the duvet.

Beautiful pics.

I'm not a morning person, but when I bother to get myself out of bed at a reasonable hour and see London coming to life as the dawn breaks I never regret it. I just wish I could make myself forgo the snug warmth of the duvet more often and without making such a big deal of it!

If I got up with the sun I would probably be living in the Arctic Circle in winter.

Nice piccies! Well done that girl!

If it gets cold then rub pig fat all over your body, stick dock leaves over this and bind your self with goats wool, it works for me even though I have no friends because I smell.

Oh Raelha!

It's just beautiful. It makes me miss the winter sun on the mountains where I grew up. We used to watch it rise as we waited at the bottom of the drive for the school bus.

We also used to go for picnics on the mountain then chase the sun home - trying to stay ahead of the stretching shadows as it dipped behind the horizon. :-)

You've just made a comment on my blog!! Why aren't you at work??

I couldn't find the bit about picking up llama poo. I looked all over the site but the only interesting bit was about 'stud males'.

I am supposed to get paid for allowing ads on the site but have never had a penny, the tight buggers! Martin told me it was a good way to earn a bob or two.

Great piccies Rachael. The sun rises here before 5:30am so I am never up before the sun rises! Queensland doesn't *do* daylight savings like the other Eastern States of Australia. Really stupid. But typical....

Last week my early mornings consisted of 'Damn' at having to prise myself from my bed in the pitch dark, followed by 'Aaah' half an hour later when I'm treated to the spectacular sight of sunrise through the swirling mist over the estuary as I drive to work. No pain, no gain it seems.

´Lorenzo, I only work two mornings a week, and then from 2pm-8.30/9pm. Keeps a girl busy. And ti was there, right at the top of your blog, a Llama poo picker. Has no-one else seen it?

Martin, I´ve noted your tip, but I´m not that desperate yet. Now all our online firends know why you have your blog, good job we can´t smell you.

Maybe that particular ad. had been taken off by the time I got myself together to have a look.
Put the sodding Christmas tree up this afternoon.

It's got cold here this week. I think I'd rather be somewhere warmer, like watching cricket in Sri Lanka like one of my mates. Still, such is life.

I've just nicked your God the Buider pic. That's the second time in 24hrs I've laughed hard enough to split me stitches.

Maybe the pig fat was not a good idea.

Are you ready for crimbo yet?

Unknown said...

Martin, we don´t do crimbo here. I´m an old scrooge. However, we´re having a huge bonfire here on the 21st (as long as it doesn´t rain) for winter Solstice, with mulled wine and Magdalene´s boozy mice pies, if you´d like to come along.

I've got some wine left if Magdalene runs out. Did she ever come up with the Mag Pies?
Lorenzo.

Happy Solstice Raelha! Enjoy the mice pies and bonfire tonight. Give the girls a stroke from me.
Lorenzo.

Wishing you a splendid Solstice bonfire. I think it'll work out best if you stand round the fire and I drink the sloe gin. The sodding mice ate the mag-pies and they seem to have also nibbled through my best magic carpet, so it does rather look as though I'm stuck here. Never mind, I'll be with you in spirit(s) *hic*

Thanks for all the Happy Solstice wishes

Magdalene, sorry you couldn't make it, the cats did enquire after the mice and the mag pies. If you get weaving now maybe the carpet wil be working in time for next year, and I can build up a good stock of mice in the freezer for the pies.

Hope laughing at God didn't hurt too much after your recent op - I found him on the Schnews website a few months back and just had to have him.
